AI-Augmented Auditing and Energy Security for the Built Environment
About Orivia Tech
Orivia Tech (Orivia Institute) is a civic AI and community resilience company based in
Rockville, Maryland. Founded by Michelle Ware-Allen — a Watson Institute Fellow and
bwtech@UMBC Clean Energy Technology Incubator resident — Orivia Tech builds technology
designed for people's worst days rather than their best.
With 15+ years of federal IT program management experience at NIH, HHS, and The
Rockefeller Foundation, our team brings deep expertise in designing systems that work
under pressure for the communities that need them most.
Products
EcoGuard — Environmental Intelligence Platform
Real-time environmental monitoring integrating grid data (WattTime, PJM), air quality
(EPA AirNow), and geological alerts (USGS) into a single dashboard. EcoGuard gives
frontline communities, municipal partners, and housing nonprofits the situational
awareness they need to protect residents and make data-driven decisions.
SafeEscape — ADA-First Emergency Routing
Emergency evacuation routing built accessibility-first. SafeEscape accounts for mobility
constraints, assistive device requirements, and real-time hazard data to generate
evacuation routes that work for everyone — not just the able-bodied.
Cognitive OS — Infrastructure Intelligence Layer
The intelligence layer connecting environmental sensors, municipal systems, and
decision-makers. Cognitive OS turns raw infrastructure data into actionable
climate-resilience insights.
SignTranslate — Accessible Emergency Communications
AI-augmented accessibility tool that translates emergency communications and signage
in real time, ensuring climate alerts reach every community member.

A national hackathon hosted at bwtech South at UMBC in Halethorpe, MD. Compete to
solve real grid-resilience and energy security challenges. Grand prize includes
fellowship opportunities worth up to $40,000 total. Applications close May 15, 2026.
